As parents and educators, we know that learning can take place at any time or place. Try these fun activities to aid the process!
Practice mental math - "What is 6 plus 7?" - at the kitchen table
Make up word problems - "How many eyes are in the car?"
Have your child tell time using an analog clock
Cook with numbers (double the recipe...)
Teach about money by playing store, counting change, etc
Use math in the workshop - "What is half of 7 inches?"
Play games that use math; this is one of my favorites. Backgammon, Battleship, Checkers, Chess, Chinese Checkers, Clue, Cribbage, Connect Four, Dominoes, Mastermind, Memory, Monopoly, Payday, Othello, Pictionary, Rummy, Stratego, Trimonoes, Trouble, Tic-Tac-Toe, etc.
